Where your data lives.

Plain English. No dark patterns. The list below is exhaustive — that’s the whole story. If anything is unclear, write to info@miguelpuig.com.

Who’s responsible

The data controller for this site and for any personal information Alder transmits on your behalf is MPuig Ltd, registered in England and Wales, headquartered in London. Contact: info@miguelpuig.com.

The architecture, briefly

Alder is a macOS application that runs on your Mac. It records audio with Core Audio, transcribes it on-device with whisper.cpp, optionally summarises the transcript through an AI provider you choose, and writes the result into Apple Notes. There is no Alder server. There is no Alder account. There is no Alder database. The website you’re reading right now is a static site on Cloudflare Pages.

What the app keeps on your Mac

  • The audio files from every recording (`.m4a` in Alder’s recordings folder).
  • The transcript, in plain text, alongside each recording.
  • The AI-generated title, summary, and any cleanup output.
  • Your settings, your custom summarisation prompts, your vocabulary profiles.
  • Your AI provider API key — stored in the macOS Keychain, accessible only to Alder under your user account.

Everything above stays on your disk until you delete it. Alder doesn’t copy it anywhere else.

What the app sends, and only if you ask it to

Two things can leave your Mac, and only on your action:

  1. The transcript text. If you turn on summarisation, cleanup, or auto-titling, Alder sends the transcript — text only — directly from your Mac to the AI provider you chose (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google), authenticated with your own API key. Audio is never sent. File names, file paths, timestamps, attendee names, and device identifiers are never sent.
  2. The finished note. The Apple Notes app syncs through your existing iCloud account. Alder writes the note locally; iCloud handles the sync the same way it would for any note you typed yourself.

Neither flow involves an Alder server. The traffic goes from your Mac directly to the third party — we have no way to see it, and we don’t want a way.

Third parties involved

  • Your AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google) — receives the transcript text when you’ve enabled summaries. Their handling is governed by your account terms with them, not by MPuig Ltd. We recommend reading their data-use policy before turning summaries on.

  • Apple — Apple Notes syncs through your iCloud account, subject to Apple’s privacy terms. If you don’t want notes synced, you can disable Notes for iCloud in System Settings.

  • Cloudflare — hosts this website and runs its cookieless analytics. See the next section.

  • A future checkout provider — once public pricing exists, we’ll add a payment processor (Stripe or similar) and update this page before that ever happens.

This website

alder.miguelpuig.com is a static site served by Cloudflare Pages. Aggregated visitor counts are gathered with Cloudflare Web Analytics — cookieless, no fingerprinting, no cross-site tracking, no individual profiles. We don’t set any cookies of our own. Cloudflare may set a single __cf_bm cookie for bot management; that cookie is set by Cloudflare and isn’t controlled by us. Your IP address is briefly visible to Cloudflare’s edge to route the request, then discarded.

The beta list

If you sign up for the private beta, MPuig Ltd holds your email address — and nothing else — so we can send you one message when the build is ready. We do not share it. We do not run a newsletter on top of it. Once the public release ships, we’ll delete the list.

The lawful basis under UK GDPR is consent: you actively submitted your email for this purpose. You can withdraw consent any time by replying to that email or writing to info@miguelpuig.com.

Data retention

  • On your Mac: your recordings, transcripts, summaries, and notes stay there until you delete them. Alder has no scheduled job that touches them.
  • On our side: nothing about your use of the app is retained, because nothing about your use of the app is collected.
  • Your beta-list email: kept until the public release email is sent, then deleted within 30 days.
  • Emails you send us: kept in our inbox for as long as the conversation is useful, then archived. You can ask us to delete a thread.

Security

  • Your AI provider API key is stored in the macOS Keychain, encrypted by the system.
  • Transcription runs on-device — no network round-trip is involved.
  • Outbound calls to AI providers use TLS 1.2+.
  • The website is served over HTTPS with HSTS preloaded. Cloudflare provides the certificate.
  • Alder is signed and notarised by Apple before release.

No service is invulnerable. If you discover a security issue, write to info@miguelpuig.com and we’ll respond within 48 hours.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You can ask us to confirm what we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it, or delete it. Since the only thing we typically hold is your beta-list email plus any emails you’ve sent us, fulfilment is fast. Email info@miguelpuig.com with your request; we’ll respond within 30 days.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Children

Alder isn’t designed for use by people under 16. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has signed up to the beta list, write to us and we’ll delete the record.

International transfers

Your transcript text, if you enable summaries, is sent to the AI provider you chose — which may process it in the United States or other countries depending on their infrastructure. These transfers are governed by your account with that provider, not by MPuig Ltd. The website itself is served from Cloudflare’s global edge; static HTML is replicated worldwide.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when something material changes — a new third party, a new product capability, a new lawful basis. The “last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes that affect anyone on the beta list will also be announced by email before they take effect.
